1 Corinthians 5 Sermon

I Corinthians 5:1-3

Sunday, we introduced the topic of sex, marriage & singleness. We built our discussion upon the foundation that the gospel is the changing agent from which our hearts, minds and lives are transformed into the image and likeness of Jesus.

Before we can talk about sexual immorality, we need to understand why sex would or could be seen as immoral. You can view sex as god, gross or gift. The results of sexual sin and misunderstandings of God's design are the result of prideful hearts and arrogance towards the gospel.

God confines sexual activity exclusively to married couples. Marriage is supposed to be the clearest image of the gospel on earth. It is a picture of how Jesus loves his bride, the church.

So, how can we find redemption in our sexual sin? Jesus frees us from the penalty and gives us power to say no to our sin. His grace gives us hope in our new identity in Christ.
