Sunday we began our mini sermon campaign, The Church Just Wants Your Money. The goal of the campaign is clarify the gross misconceptions about God and money. In the first sermon, Pastor Boyd shared about how money was a matter of the heart, not just economics. For many us, the sermon was revealing about how money has our attentions and affections. We learned that money is utlimately a god that we seek to orient our lives around to feel success, control, pleasure, or security.
Pastor Boyd mentioned a great book by Timothy Keller, Counterfeit Gods. This is a great resource to help unrival your idolatry and reorient your life around worshipping Jesus. Tim Keller describes idolatry this way, "If anything becomes more fundamental than God to your happiness, meaning in life, and identity, then it is an [counterfeit god] idol.”
Throughout our campaign, we will provide resources to serve you as you learn to practically manage your money in a way that honors and worships Jesus.
