Jesus is Calling You
John 1: 35-51
Everyone is seeking something in life. Many know what they are seeking. Many aren't so sure, they just want to be happy. It’s interesting that even with family and careers in place we often find people without joy. The reason may be found in their lack of belief and understanding of Jesus and who He is in their life. Even believers in Jesus may not fully understand the true grace and love available from Jesus. There is grace and love that brings pure joy. As John 1 reminds us, Jesus is calling us to follow Him. There’s joy in knowing who we are in God and following Him.
He chose us first and gave us His all. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” From the beginning of time our creator has been calling us. The calling is present in every season of our life. Even before we were born, as Jeremiah describes, God called us. During our lives that we live, we see this calling through Scriptures, other believers, family, creation, etc. Just as the disciples were influenced by those around them, by the words of testimonies and accounts of who Jesus was, we also have the ability to see Christ's influence around us.
Most believers were drawn to Jesus through the means of other people. Part of our calling as believers is to be a part of drawing lost people to Him. I’m a Christ follower today because of someone else's walk with the Lord. They proclaimed the Gospel through their lives and God used it to influence others. We have to begin to believe that we can have an influence on the world around us. We can’t get discouraged by those who don't choose Christ. We can be sorrowful for the lost, but we must not lose our zeal for those who will soon know Christ. Opportunities are among us every day to pray for the lost and to be a witness to the lost.
Hebrews 10:12 “But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God”. Jesus is calling us to be with Him. He wants our all. He isn't asking anything from us that He hasn't already given Himself. Jesus gave His life to the fullest on earth in life and in death. Though everyone’s sacrifice will not look the same, our passion to live for Jesus and serve Him to our fullest should be evident. Just as in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit was moving among the church, the Holy Spirit is doing the same work here on this earth with us. The Holy Spirit moved among believers that were proclaiming the good news where they were. If we begin to share the good news of the Gospel and what He has done for us, this simple powerful truth can change lives.
Answer the call that is from Jesus today. Totally surrender your life to His will and plan. The joy of being a Christ follower will bring true peace.
