Paul writes to the church at Thessalonica, reminding them to be constant and persistent in prayer. Just as it was for the early church, so it is for us. One of the greatest tools we have to see God’s mission clearly and accomplish His will is prayer.

At the end of each quarter, The District Church will enter into ‘30 Days of Prayer’ together. Each season, we will have four different prayer focuses to which we will dedicate each week.

Week 1 - Leaders Staff & Elders

Pray for our pastors, elders, staff, and ministry leaders to grow in the knowledge of Christ, walk faithfully in their calling, and be protected in their character and testimony. Ask the Lord to give them rest and wisdom. Pray for God to raise up new leaders within the church.

Scripture: Colossians 1:9–12 we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,  so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him…

Week 2 - 4045 Post St.

Pray for God’s continued wisdom in the sale and future of 4045 Post St—that He would grant wisdom, discernment, unity, and provision, and clearly reveal His plan and purpose for this property.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God
Isaiah 55:8–9 My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways

Week 3 - Family

This week, we pray, asking God to strengthen our families—growing us in Christlikeness both in and outside of our homes. May He grow our love for one another, deepen our faith, and shape our church and families to reflect Christ in how we live, serve, and care for one another. Pray for marriages and for parents to be equipped and encouraged. Pray also for growth and maturity as a local church family of disciples.

Scripture: Colossians 3:12–14 Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Psalm 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.

Week 4 - Discipleship

Pray that our church would faithfully live out Christ’s call to make disciples. Ask God to grow you and others, and for The District to be a place where believers are discipled, equipped, and sent to share the gospel and multiply disciples.

Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Prayer

The practice of prayer is one we constantly see in the life of Jesus. In passages like Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, & Luke 9:18, Jesus sets apart intentional time to pray and be with the Father. It was not only a practice in Jesus’ life; it was a priority. Prayer is one of the ways we communicate and connect with God. We can believe prayer is a very important part of our walk with Christ, as the largest book in the Bible is a book of poems and prayers.

POSTURE

It is so beneficial when we approach prayer with a proper posture. Take the time to be still, to rid our minds and environments of any distractions. Begin with silence, clearing the spaces of your mind, and spend a moment with God. Take a few deep breaths and begin to pray. Do not feel like you have to speak the entire time; take moments to listen and consider what exists in your head and heart. Romans 8 reminds us that God knows our prayers even when we don’t have the words to form them. ("For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.")

Our righteousness is found in Christ Jesus, so as we pray, we pray in His name. After you pray, take a few more moments to be still, again listening and just being with God.

PRACTICE

Below are 7 types of prayers, each with a different focus and application.
